November to June: best overall
This is the strongest window for most travelers. Conditions are generally warm and dry, making it ideal for beaches, sightseeing, island hopping and winter sun trips from Europe.
December to April: best for hiking
Cooler breezes make this a better period for Santo Antão hikes, Fogo volcano routes and longer outdoor days without the strongest heat.
January to March: best for kitesurfing
Trade winds are usually strongest during this period, making Sal and Boa Vista especially popular for kitesurfing and wind-focused beach trips.
February: best for culture
Carnival season brings music, color and celebration, especially in Mindelo on São Vicente. It is one of the most atmospheric times to visit if culture matters to you.
Late summer and early autumn
This period can feel warmer and more humid, with a higher chance of rain than the dry winter months. It can still be a good trip, but the feel is different from classic winter sun.
